(I run Solidworks on my high end Lenovo laptop.)

Keep in mind that my current machine is fine for all I do with it - email, Safari, Word, and some occasional Photoshop. And apparently there were a couple other options. Optional was two 2.4 GHz 6-Core "Westmere" EP processors.

I have 4 2TB enterprise class drives (one as the main drive, one for Sonos, two mirrored for automatic backups with CCC) in my current machine and therefore the only Mac Pro that I'd be interested in is the last 1st gen machine, the Mid 2012 with the Westmere architecture. What I'd prefer to do is buy a newer Mac Pro and simply pull the hard drives from my early 2008 machine, put them in the new machine, and be up and running.
#Upgrade 3.33 6 core mac pro 2012 to 12 core install
I know there is supposed to be a way to get 10.14 to install with a patcher, but I don't like the idea as if something goes wrong, I'm really hosed. However, it won't be long before Sonos stops supporting OS 10.11(El Capitan) and I'll have to find a solution. I have an early 2008 Mac Pro that has and is serving me well.
